Feeling Like Giving Up? Here Are a Few Advice to Hold On!

Life ain’t always sweet. There are times when we feel like giving up everything and running away. I know how it is and here are some advice that I hope may help you too. Read on.

I know how it feels

I can’t count how many times in my life I gave up: projects, jobs, dreams, relationships… And I can tell you it wasn’t a good thing. It was bad for my immediate present and for my distant future. Giving up is worse than failing, it’s an abandonment of ourselves. But an abandon to what? To nothingness. It’s just self-sabotage.

Advice to hold on 

When you feel like giving up, it’s—in my experience—a negative mental state. And it’s possible to get out of this negative mental state by doing something pleasant or simply positive.

Take care of yourself

Have you noticed how your mood can be elevated after getting a haircut? You’re taking care of yourself, of your appearance and it simply makes you happy. It’s—of course—not limited to that. You can do many things to take care of your physical self and give a smile to your inner self. Get a massage, practice a sport, get new clothes from a brick-and-mortar shop, and so on… Taking care of yourself is also good for your self-esteem.

Take a walk

Going out and walking can be effective to slowly dive into a calmer, more peaceful mental state. So, take a walk without any aim. Breathe the fresh air, and contemplate the world. Take a seat inside a cafe or on a public bench and see that life can be slow and peaceful. 

Enjoy life

I tend to say to my close friends “enjoy life or someone else will.” Enjoying life doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It can be anything that can make you feel happy and alive. A hobby, a delicious meal, a good time with a friend… There’s plenty of choice and it’s really up to you! For me, going to the pastry shop in my district or burning a cigar with good music and a libation helps me get out of this negative mental state. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Giving a smile to your loved ones

This is one of the most beautiful ways to get out of the negative mental state pushing you to give up. Give a smile to your loved ones: your life partner, your kids, your family… When you’re nice to your loved ones, when you make them happy, their precious smiles can clear any clouds away!

Hold on

Whenever you’re feeling like giving up, try the advice discussed above. They are not magical solutions but they have worked for me. Till this morning I was down and feeling like giving up everything I’m pursuing. But after a walk, a haircut, and a passage to the pastry shop, I’m reminded of the delicious taste of life and its simple pleasures.
